Science SLC

As a scientist I’ve learned you can only change one variable at a time because otherwise you won’t know which variable did what.

In science, we changed the length of the string of the pendulums.

I realized that there are many other variables I can think of and I want to try them.

Social Studies SLC

As a freedomist, I’ve learned that some secrets are meant to be kept and some aren’t. Also how some slaves gained, maintained and lost freedom.

For example, in January Sparrow, if Sadie hadn’t told her BFF Paulie they were slaves, Paulie’s dad (the judge) wouldn’t have locked up the slave catchers and allowed the Crosswhites to flee to Canada.

Also in Iqbal, Iqbal loses freedom when he is taken to Hussain Khan’s carpet factory where he works children half to death. He gains freedom when he rebels against Hussain and runs away multiple times. Iqbal maintains freedom when he stays with the group that helps save slaves and risks his life.

After electing in social studies I realized that so many people risked everything to save even 1 family and how I want to do something good with my life too.

Tech SLC

As a technological genius, real tech is not playing video games. The real tech is the coding behind the game.

When I helped plan family tech night, Anika and I had to do coding in hopscotch, scratch and scratch jr.

After reflecting in tech, I realized I want to work more on HDMI code and PYTHON because that is real coding and one of the things I want to be when I grow up is a graphic designer.

Writing SLC

As a writer I have learned to make leads suspenseful or funny and bright.

For example in my informational piece I had a suspenseful lead.

In my fantasy story I made a bright and kind of funny lead…

I realized that the strongest part of my writing is always the lead. That is a good thing because if the lead in a piece is bad, the reader will not be hooked and might not even read the piece!

Math SLC

As a mathematician I learned how to put a model, numbers and letters in my proofs to make them strong.

For example, this is one of my strong proofs…

I also used a mathematical practice 8. That is indentifying patterns in problems that help me solve them. This is one time I used it.

Intro to SLC

Dear Mummy and Daddy,

Thanks so much for coming to this conference. It means a lot to me that you took your precious time to come here today (especially daddy).

Over the last week I have been collecting evidence for all the subjects and making goals. It was a little bit challenging and I hope it was worthwhile.

When I was examining my social skills and habits, I realized I seem pretty comfortable with my friends. A goal I set is to follow my goals all the way through. Starting with a this!

Today I hope your questions about my school life will be answered. Maybe you will even think of new ones along the way. Feel free to ask me anything. LET’S GET STARTED!!!

Lots of Love,

Arshi (a)
